(that first image can be used by anyone to make
silkscreen art with. seth_oubliette.)
my name is seth_oubliette.
i make sounds that are labeled as noise
i like noises and am happy to create these sounds
i use sound collages [sometimes] but mostly distorted & lo-fidelity
noise
i record in my house, mostly in my living room [den/family room]
the small rectangluar room has a great echo and reverb quality
my sounds mix in the air, not on a sound-board
i live in the woods, the rural-south in Georgia, usa
i hate cities and cement and business ethics
i hope i never have to go to another large city
when i visit urban life i tend to stay in the run-down, down-town
oldest part of the city
i go where the older culture still lives
i view life based on where i live and how i received my culture,
my parents, my state, my climate and the geology of Georgia
i have a very small world-view and dislike most people
///
when i look out of my window i see trees and grass and flowers
i see a manicured yard that my parents carved
down the road i see fields of crops [corn, cotton, soy-beans . . .]
///
i started making music on a computer
and that was good enough for awhile
i never made computer-noise, if was more industrial [i guess?]
musical genres are bullshit
when i learned about noise and read all the opinios about HOW noise
should be made, i created a dogma for myself
-no digital sources
-no hi-fidelity recording software or digital 8/16-track recorders
[or larger]
-no mixers
-recordings must be created live with no heavy editing
oubliette's style relies upon distortion, octave changes, feedback,
old broken music players [record players, cassette & 8-track players],
junk, trash, and metal objects
the metal objects reflect my life
they are parts of farm equipment, rusty and antique
old metal objects still hold the culture and flavor of my agrarian
past
///
i do not intend to tour the world or tour the usa
i play shows in south-east Georgia, south-west South Carolina, and
Northern Florida
these areas have enough interest for me and have great, strong,
growing & changing music scenes
///
i sell my oubliette releases for cheap
usually near shipping prices, especially to world-wide buyers
the most interesting part of the current-noise-world/market is that
we use computers to reach EVERYONE
yet at the same time, noise made with a computer is viewed in a
negative light
for example:
i can record a cassette in Clyo, Georgia and send it to England or
to Italy
my noise comrades can send the noise to China or Japan or ANYWHERE
i can be apart of a world-wide collaboration or split
me, seth, from THE WOODS can live in shang-hai or milan or osaka or
moscow because of noise and because of our electronic means of
instantaneous contact
we no longer have to use telephones or trade dubbed cassettes full
of obscurity or photocopy our battered zines for others [these
things are still fun and are better than computers in many ways, but
are not mass effective anymore]
i experience the WORLD via my online noise comrades, people i never
should have met
the internet is a great way to compile and spread information and
documentation
since i will never travel the world, my electronic-self, the cyborg
portion of ME can live everywhere
noise has bloomed and blossomed [and spoiled to some] because
everyone who wanted to know about experimental music now has instant
access
[or someone they know has instant acess]
this also creates many fakes and those who participate because of
the trendiness of new noise
who will still be around in five years other than those who were
always here?
am i, seth_oubliette a fake because the internet and cdr-trading
created me?
will i give up once the trend dies? i hope not and i try hard to
prove my noise-validity
///
absurdity is fun, also.
I am full of contradictions [because i am an imperfect human animal]
